#4. Further education & troubleshooting

Follow up sessions will be used to assess how you did with your assigned goals and answer any questions. We’ll troubleshoot any issues, and then provide further education to build on your knowledge and skills. We work closely with you in a step-by-step manner – laying the foundations for success first – and once that’s achieved – can then move into teaching next level strategies that work after the foundations are laid.

As you gain progress and momentum over ongoing sessions, you will move onto new goals, expand in your knowledge and confidence in feeding. With consistency in goal application and lots of hand-holding and accountability from us, you will see progress unfold!

As a parent of two previous picky eaters that are now teenagers, Edwena has over 15 years of clinical experience in pediatric nutrition (as well as parenting). She’s known for her compassionate yet no-nonsense approach: she meets parents exactly where they are, helps them quiet the noise of doubt, and guides them toward a whole new level of confidence in feeding their child.

Jillian Smith, nutrition dietitian at My Little Eater

Based in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Jill has a compassionate style of counselling that meets parents where they are and helps them take simple, gradual steps so that the process is easy and enjoyable. She knows that feeding isn’t just about getting kids to eat; it’s about fostering trust, confidence, and enjoyment at the table.

Rather than offering quick fixes or rigid rules, Jill’s philosophy focuses on long-term success — helping you build a positive, lifelong relationship with food for your child. She helps toddlers become adventurous eaters through fostering their natural curiosity around food, teaching them to honour their internal cues, recognize hunger, fullness, and develop a healthy relationship with food. By nurturing this self-awareness, children develop a healthy, intuitive relationship with food, one that supports both their nutritional needs and emotional well-being.

Jill is a registered dietitian who completed her Bachelor of Science in Applied Human Nutrition and dietetic internship through Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, NS. She is a member of the New Brunswick Association of Dietitians.

frequently asked questions

Registered Dietitians are covered under most health insurance plans in Canada. Most group insurance plans including Manulife, Blue Cross, Sunlife, GreatWest Life, Green Shield and more.

Tip: Most health insurance and extended healthcare benefits plans follow the calendar year schedule, meaning they begin on January 1st and end on December 31st, of the given year. If you haven’t used your dietitian coverage yet, be sure to take advantage before the year is up and your benefits reset!

Note: Packages are considered family sessions and appointments can be billed separately for each family member. This means you can combine coverage from each family member to cover a full package cost.

Although we can’t direct bill, we can provide you with receipts to submit directly to your insurance company. If you don’t have coverage, the cost of your appointments are considered a tax-deductible expense that you can claim.

We offer virtual consultations to meet you where you are – comfortable in your own home or meeting place of choice! Feel free to show up in your sweats, with your little one in your arms, camera off or on. If you live in Halifax, Nova Scotia and we identify a need to do an in-person feeding session, assessment or feeding therapy, we will offer you the option as part of or in-addition to your package.

In most cases, there is no need for your child to be present, as the education and implementation is done for and through the parents. In fact, for older toddlers and pre-schoolers, we prefer that your child is not present during the initial assessment, so we can speak freely about their feeding habits without worrying about them holding onto “picky eater” labels or discussions about their weight. That being said, if you don’t have child-care – no worries 🙂 We are experienced with handling these discussions sensitively 🙂

Your child only needs to be present if we identify the need to do a feeding assessment of the mealtime environment/dynamics. We have the ability to assess feeding skills or mealtimes through submission of recorded video sessions. All this will be instructed to you during or after your initial assessment as part of your individualized plan.

We recommend booking a free discovery call with one of our dietitians to chat about your particular struggles and challenges, understand what you’ve tried and what you need further help with, and to get to know your dietitian and her process. We can then recommend an appropriate service/package option based on your situation and make sure you have some options to move forward with.

Our standard packages range from $500-$1500 Canadian, depending on your needs, goals, and specific situation. This ensures that we are able to implement a full program that is designed to give you the best results and that we see you through to the end with your specific goals. While we do not book one-off sessions on a pay-as-you-go basis, we occasionally can further customize a package in special circumstances.

Payments can be made via email money transfer or by credit card. After booking a session or package, you will receive an email within 24 hours to discuss your invoicing/receipts requests and to make payment arrangements. Payments are due 24 hours before your first appointment and packages are due in full upfront (with receipts provided right away so you can submit for reimbursement from insurance).

No problem! We offer add-on options for more than one child or for total family nutrition needs. Just book a discovery call and we can let you know after chatting in more detail, what that would look like for your specific situation 🙂

We don’t book initial consultations outside of a full package that is paid upfront, which includes a set number of follow up sessions.  Nutrition and feeding plans are dynamic and goals are subject to change and will be elaborated on as follow-up sessions continue, old challenges are resolved and potentially new ones arise. Ensuring we work within the context of a full program and not just one-off consultations is strategic to ensure that your money and time doesn’t go to waste and that we are able to see your goals through to the end.
